Syrah is the only red varietal used for all 5 of the “cru” wines produced in the northern Rhône : the appellations Hermitage, Crozes Hermitage, Saint Joseph, Cornas and in the very north Côte Rôtie.
Syrah is also one of the 3 main varietals used in the red wines of the southern Rhône valley.
in the Rhône Valley, Syrah’s style is attributed to the granite “terroirs” of the foothills of the Massif Central, combined with a cool climate. Young, these wines are complex and fruity, with aromas of red berries and violets, and a spicy finish, hallmark of Syrah. As they age, they take on aromas of black fruits, venison, chocolate and pepper, which highlight an elegant and full bodied structure.
Cave de Tain is a founder member of the "R&D Syrah" Association.

Syrah is the only red varietal vinified by the Cave de Tain.
A specialist in Syrah, Cave de Tain has extensive knowledge of the varietal, from yield management in the vineyard, to fine-tuned ageing processes, carefully adapted for individual vines and sites. Each plot selection wine expresses a specific facet of the varietal.
Cave de Tain shares its Syrah know-how via partnerships, such as the one with Kilikanoon in Australia’s Clare Valley. Exchanges like this with a Syrah specialist in the southern hemisphere help to promote the Syrah varietal, born in the Rhône.
